Description

40 and 42 Bradford Street are an 18th and 19th century timber-framed and plastered house, built on the site of an earlier 16th-century house. A 17th-century extension to that earlier structure remains at the rear. The front building is of three storeys and has a three-window facade. The windows are double-hung sashes with glazing bars, set within cased frames, although the central window is a 20th-century replacement. A central six-panel door, with the upper panels glazed, is set within a Doric doorcase, featuring pilasters, a triglyph frieze, and a cornice, and is approached by steps. A 20th-century doorway for No. 42 adjoins this. The roofs are slate covered. The listed buildings from No. 24 to No. 56A on the east side form a group with Nos. 37 to 89 (including Nos. 57, 61 and 61A) on the west side.
