Description
Nos 54, 56, and 56A on Bradford Street are a range of timber-framed and plastered houses dating from the 16th to 17th centuries. The northern part, which includes Nos 56 and 56A, was refronted in the 18th century and features a parapet and cornice. The buildings are two storeys high and have a five-window range. The first storey has 20th-century three-light casements, while the ground storey has four three-light bays. No 56A includes a shop front from the 20th century. No 56 has a central six-panel door set within a wooden doorcase that features panelled reveals, pilasters, and a dentilled pediment. At the north end, a wing extends eastward towards Phillips Chase and includes a cart entrance. The roofs are tiled. Inside, some of the original timber-framing and ceiling beams, some of which are carved, remain visible. The listed buildings from No 24 to No 56A on the east side form a group with Nos 37 to 89 (including Nos 57, 61, and 61A) on the west side.
