Description
This barn, located approximately 40 metres west-north-west of Termitt's Farmhouse, dates from around 1600. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, with a roof made of handmade red clay tiles and corrugated asbestos. The barn has four bays aligned northeast-southwest, featuring an aisle and midstrey on the southeast side. Originally, it also had an aisle on the northwest side, which has been infilled below the arcade plate. There are lean-to extensions on both sides of the midstrey. The main span roof and midstrey are clad with tiles, while the aisle and extensions are covered with corrugated asbestos. The structure includes jowled posts and arched braces to the arcade plates and tiebeams, although some braces have been replaced with straight ones. One of these straight braces, which has a notched lap, is made from reused timber dating back to the 13th century. The arcade plates and wallplates feature face-halved and bladed scarfs, and the roof is supported by butt-purlins with arched wind-bracing.
