Description

TL 64 SE STEEPLE BUMPSTEAD 2/40 Barn approx.30 metres North of Yew Tree Farmhouse GV II

Barn with one aisle, c.1600, altered in early C19. Timber framed, weatherboarded, roofed with slate. 4 bays aligned approx. NW-SE, aisled on NE side, with entrance to SW in second bay from SE end, C19. Lean-to shed at SE end of red and blue bricks and red clay pantiles. Jowled posts, arched braces to tiebeams and arcade plate, heavy studding with arched braces trenched inside, face-halved and bladed scarfs. The NE wall has been raised and the roof rebuilt above tiebeam level for the reduced pitch of slate.
