Description
The barn located to the northeast of Yew Tree Farmhouse dates from the late 17th century. It features a timber-framed structure with weatherboard cladding set on a brick plinth made of English garden wall bond. The roof is covered with corrugated asbestos, which replaced the original thatch. The barn consists of five bays, with the center bay being wider and aisled.
On the south side, there is a large hipped porch that has a blocked doorway, along with double planked doors added for garage access on the west side. An extension with a lean-to roof is attached to the east side. The west gable includes sliding planked doors, while the north side does not have a porch. Additionally, there is a brick lean-to shed attached to the east gable.
Inside, the barn features collar and tie-beam trusses with curved bracing connecting the aisle posts to the tie-beams and arcade plates. Some of the aisle bays still have boarded partitions, and the northwest bay is said to have been used for a shire horse. There is also a loft above the porch.
