Description
Ivy Cottage is a detached cottage located on Bratton Lower Road. It features a relief carving dated 1639 on the door lintel and includes an 18th-century addition. The building has irregular panelled timber-framing with painted brick nogging and a thatched roof, which has gable end brick stacks. The 18th-century addition is constructed in Flemish bond brick. The original 17th-century range consists of two bays and is two storeys high with three windows.
The entrance has a ledged door with a thatched canopy to the left of the 17th-century range, accompanied by a 2-light casement window to the left and a 3-light casement window to the right. The 18th-century range features a 16-pane flush sash window and a 2-light casement to the left. On the first floor, there are two 3-light casements to the right and a 2-light casement to the left. The right side of the cottage is constructed of rubble stone, showing visible former rooflines. At the rear, there is a lean-to conservatory on the ground floor, with two 2-light casements and one single-light casement on the first floor. The interior was not accessible during the survey conducted in May 1986.
