Description

Great Waltons Farmhouse is a house dating from the 17th century, with extensions made in the 18th century and alterations in the 19th century. It has a timber frame, which is mainly plastered, and is partly covered with yellow bricks laid in Flemish bond. The roof is made of handmade red clay tiles. The building consists of three bays arranged in a northwest-southeast direction, featuring a central chimney stack and a service wing to the northeast that has an end chimney stack, creating an irregular T-shaped plan. The 18th-century wing is located at the northern angle and has an axial chimney stack where it meets the main range. There is a 20th-century porch at the eastern angle.

The farmhouse has two storeys. The southeast elevation shows the gable end of the main range clad in yellow brick, while the rest is plastered. It features a 20th-century half-glazed door, one tripartite double-hung sash window with 4-12-4 lights from the early 19th century, and one 20th-century casement window. On the first floor, there is one double-hung sash window with 16 lights from the late 19th century, along with another 20th-century casement window. The main chimney stack has grouped diagonal shafts. Inside, there are axial beams with lamb's tongue stops on both floors in the northwest and northeast sections, which are boxed in the southeast rooms. The ground floor contains two 17th-century moulded doors, and there are two more on the first floor.
