Description

Abbots Hall is a house dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of stucco with a slate roof and has a roughly half-H shaped plan, with side wings extending to the rear. A later 19th-century extension is present to the southwest, built of painted brick. The house is two storeys high. The central recessed porch features fluted Ionic columns, plain pilasters, and an architrave. Above the porch is a recessed balcony with French windows and decorative cast iron railings featuring scrolls and tulip-leaf motifs. On the front elevation, there is one double-hung sash window with 16 lights on each floor, with stucco moulded architraves and cornice heads to the ground floor windows only. The roof is hipped, and there are two groups of octagonal chimney shafts, with four and two cement-rendered shafts respectively. The front elevation is symmetrical. The northeast elevation has three double-hung sash windows on each floor, mirroring the front elevation, with the outer windows slightly projecting.
