Description

Howe Hall is a house dating from the 16th century and later. It is timber framed, plastered, and has a roof covered with red clay tiles. The building has a complex plan that includes a 16th-century east-west range with a stack and a wing to the south at the eastern end, along with two 18th-century wings to the north, creating an approximate square shape. There is an external stack and a single-storey extension from the 19th century to the east. The house is two storeys high.

On the west elevation facing the road, there are two late 19th-century splayed bays with sash windows featuring 2-4-2 lights, and on the first floor, there are two early 19th-century sash windows with 16 lights. The entrance is located to the south, featuring a 20th-century glazed door set in a flat-roofed porch. The eastern elevation displays some early zigzag pargetting.

Inside, the property features chamfered axial beams with lamb's tongue stops. The joists in the original middle part of the house are of horizontal section, while in other areas they are of vertical section. The posts are jowled. The roof of the original part has been rebuilt at a higher level, leaving one original gable intact, which includes a collar for clasped purlins and wattle and daub construction.
