Description
Brook House is a timber-framed house, originally dating to the 16th century, and subsequently altered in the 20th century. It has been divided into two cottages. The main range, facing northwest, has three bays, with a two-bay crosswing to the left and an axial stack at the junction between the two. A 20th-century stack is located at the rear of the crosswing, and a thatched single-storey lean-to extension projects beyond. A single-storey extension, with an internal stack and a roof of red clay single and double Roman tiles, is located behind the right end of the house. The main range is one storey high with attics, while the crosswing is two storeys high. There are four 20th-century casement windows, and one further casement in the gable of the crosswing. A 19th-century horizontally sliding sash window, with eight lights, is set within a slated swept dormer. A plain boarded door is present, covered by a simple 19th-century hood, and there is a 20th-century door. The gable of the crosswing shows an exposed cambered collar, with exposed ends of clasped purlins and wall plates. The interior of the main range features a transverse beam with step stops. The crosswing has jowled posts and a clasped purlin roof with curved wind bracing.
