Description

No. 16 Stoneham Street is a house that has been converted into a shop and flat. It dates from the 18th century and has been altered in the 20th century. The building is timber framed, with a plastered and weatherboarded exterior, and is topped with handmade red plain tiles. It consists of two bays aligned northeast-southwest, with the gable end facing the street and an internal stack at the rear. There is a two-bay extension at the back, which includes one axial stack, and a single-storey flat-roofed extension added in the 20th century.

The house is two storeys tall. The front features a 20th-century bow shop window designed in an early 19th-century style, while the first floor has one 18th or early 19th-century sash window with 12 lights. The entrance includes a fielded six-panel door set within a 20th-century architrave styled to match the early 19th century. The front is plastered, while the rest of the building is mostly weatherboarded and tarred. The roof of the rear block is approximately 0.5 meters higher than that of the front block, and the gable is plastered.

On the left side of the building, there is an early 19th-century sash window with 16 lights. On the right side, the ground floor features an 18th or early 19th-century window with 20 fixed lights made of crown and bullseye glass, and the first floor has a 19th-century window with 2 fixed lights. The frame of the building is concealed by interior finishes. The roof of the rear block has a ridge, while the other roof is inaccessible. This building is included for its group value.
