Description
No. 8 Market End is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates back to the 16th century or earlier and underwent alterations in the 19th century. The building is timber framed, plastered, and has a roof made of handmade red plain tiles. It has two bays facing south and features an internal stack located at the rear left corner. There is a 20th-century single-storey extension at the back with a flat roof.
The structure is two storeys high. On the ground floor, there is a late 19th-century sash window with three over three lights, along with a 20th-century shopfront. The first floor has two similar sash windows. A central 20th-century half-glazed door is set within an early 19th-century simple doorcase that has a moulded shallow flat canopy.
Inside, the ground floor is divided by an inserted studded partition to the left of the door. The left section features plain joists of horizontal section arranged longitudinally, with transverse beams that are plastered over. The right section has a chamfered axial beam with step stops, and the joists are plastered to the soffits. The first-floor rooms are entirely plastered.
