TL 8422-8522 COGGESHALL MARKET END (south side)
9/138 No. 9 (formerly listed 2.5.53 as Shop premises adjoining and on the North East of Guildhall, South Side of East Street)

House, now house and shop. C16 or earlier, altered in C18 and C19. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with handmade red plain tiles. 2-bay crosswing aligned at right angles to street, with rear extensions. 3 storeys. Ground floor, late C19 shop with C20 window to right, recessed glazed door to left, with plain overlight. Panelled pilasters at each end of elevation, with 3 carved flowers on each. Egg-and-dart band above fascia, and plain cornice above. First floor, 2 late C19 sashes of 8 lights. Second floor, 2 early C19 sashes of 12 lights. Dentilled and moulded eaves cornice, returning to right. Hipped roof. The framing of the right wall is exposed in no. 11 (item 9/139, q.v.), from which it is clear that the 3 storeys are original, with arched display bracing rising to the central post, trenched into the studs. No access to interior at time of survey, July 1987. RCHM 74.
