Description

This is an early 19th century house, extended in the 20th century. It is located on the west side of Stoneham Street in Coggeshall. Originally listed as The Limes in 1966, the building is constructed of plastered brick with a slate roof. The house has a rectangular plan facing northeast, with two rear stacks. A 20th century two-storey extension with a flat roof is located to the rear left, and a single-storey lean-to is beyond that. The original front has a five-window range of 12-light sash windows with square heads and crown glass. The off-centre entrance features a six-panel door with the lower panels flush, middle panels fielded, and top panels glazed, set within a pedimented doorcase with panelled jambs and soffit, and one stone step. The low-pitched hipped roof has long overhanging eaves. A 20th century casement window is found on the left return, while the right return has no apertures, with some painted brickwork visible at ground floor level only. Both stacks have been rebuilt in the 20th century using red bricks above roof level.
