Description
This building is an outhouse located 10 metres east of Old Post Office Cottages, dating from around 1500. It has been repurposed as a woodshed and coalshed. The structure is timber framed, with parts weatherboarded and others clad in red brick laid in Flemish bond. The roof is covered with red clay corrugated tiles. It features a two-bay hall oriented northwest to southeast, with a service bay to the southeast. In the 17th century, it was extended to the southeast by one short bay. The building is a single storey high.
On the southwest elevation, there are three boarded doors and one small 20th-century casement window. Gablets are present at both ends of the roof. Inside, the building has jowled posts and a complete crownpost roof from the original construction, featuring curved axial braces. There is no inserted floor or chimney stack, except for one serving a free-standing boiler near the southwest wall. The original roof is smoke-blackened. This outhouse was originally part of a 'Unit System' with Old Post Office Cottages, and due to its smaller size and intermittent occupation, it was never fitted with a brick chimney stack, which was common in the late 16th century.
