Description

Spayne's Hall is a house that dates back to the 16th century or earlier, with alterations made in the 18th and 20th centuries. It is timber framed and plastered, with a roof covered in handmade red clay tiles. The main part of the building is aligned northeast to southwest and has a southeast aspect, featuring an external chimney stack at the rear. There are two 2-bay crosswings, each with an internal chimney stack, extensions at the rear, and additional chimney stacks at the ends. A single-storey lean-to extension is located in the western angle of the building.

The house has two storeys, and both crosswings project forward with jetties, supported by two grotesque brackets from the early 20th century. The central gable of the facade also projects, and all three gables are adorned with dentilled bargeboards from the late 19th or early 20th century. The entrance features a 20th-century door set within a tiled gabled porch, which has a label and dentilled bargeboards from the late 19th or early 20th century.

The front of the house includes two 20th-century splayed bay windows, one 20th-century casement window, and one early 17th-century window with three fixed lights, all of which are ovolo-moulded. On the first floor, there are three late 19th or early 20th-century casement windows, one without a label, and one early 17th-century window with two fixed lights, also ovolo-moulded, along with one wrought iron casement. The interior was not accessible at the time of the survey and has been extensively restyled in the late 19th or early 20th century, with some features added during that time.
