Description
The Limes is a house dating from around 1500, with alterations made in the 17th, 19th, and 20th centuries. It features a timber frame, with parts plastered and parts showing the exposed framing, and is roofed with handmade red clay tiles. The main range has two bays and is aligned approximately north-south, with a chimney stack located in the northern bay. There are two crosswings that create a half-H plan, with two internal chimney stacks in the northern crosswing and one external chimney stack to the south of the southern crosswing. A lean-to stair tower is situated in the northwest angle, and there is a small lean-to extension to the south. The building has an eastern aspect and stands two storeys high.
The entrance features a 20th-century door within a tiled gabled porch, with three 20th-century casement windows on the ground floor and four on the first floor, most of which have 20th-century labels. The main range displays exposed framing, and the southern crosswing has an exposed jetty with a billet-carved bressumer. Both gables have 20th-century pierced bargeboards. Inside, the property includes moulded beams and joists, some exposed studding with curved bracing set into the walls, and an original stair door with a four-centred doorhead.
