Description

The Waggon and Horses is a public house located on High Street in Great Yeldham. It dates back to the 16th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 20th centuries. The building is timber framed, mostly covered in plaster, with some areas of painted brick, and it has a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. It has an H-plan layout, facing east, with a rear extension to the north wing that creates an L-plan shape. There is an axial chimney stack in the southern bay of the middle range. The building has two storeys. The eastern elevation was originally jettied but is now underbuilt with painted brick. The entrance features a 20th-century door, and there are three 19th-century double-hung sash windows with 16 lights on the ground floor and four on the first floor. Additionally, there are two blocked doorways with moulded architraves and a gablet at the southern end of the roof.
