Description

Westwoods is a house dating from the 17th century, extended in the early 19th century and altered in the 20th century. It is timber framed and has plaster walls, covered by a roof of handmade red clay tiles. The building is arranged with three bays, running approximately north-south, facing west, and includes a central chimney stack. A rear wing extends from the north end, featuring an external chimney stack at its end. In 1837, two cottages were added to the east side; these were later incorporated into the main house. The house has two storeys. The west elevation includes a 20th-century door within a glazed porch with a tiled, hipped roof, and two early 20th-century bay windows with hipped roofs. Upstairs, there are three double-hung sash windows with four lights, dating from the late 19th century. The roof is hipped. The north elevation has decorative pargeting, with the cottages displaying a looped combed design and an original inscription, ‘Nov 10, 1837. J. Bareham’. The house's pargeting features a chevron design. Inside, the house has chamfered axial beams with lamb's tongue stops.
