Description
Tweed Cottage is a house dating from around 1700, with alterations made in the 20th century. It is timber framed and plastered, featuring a thatched roof. The building has an L-shape, with wings extending to the north and east, and includes an axial chimney stack in each wing, along with an external chimney stack at the end of the east wing, which is from the 19th century. The cottage is single-storey with attics.
On the north elevation, there are two 20th-century casement windows on the ground floor and two more on the first floor, one of which is located in a gabled dormer. The exterior retains much of the original or early pargetting, which is saw-pricked in panels with moulded borders, making it a valuable survival, despite some minor 20th-century repairs done in a similar style. Inside, the cottage features exposed framing, with the main timbers made of good straight hardwood, which are pegged, while the studs are nailed. The north wallplate shows a face-halved and bladed scarf joint.
