Description
The Old Dairy Barn at Panfield Farm is an animal shelter built in the late 17th century, with an early 18th-century transept. It features a timber frame with weatherboarded cladding and a corrugated iron roof.
On the east side, there is a gabled transept entrance with a doorway offset to the left and two loading doors above. A 19th-century weatherboarded outshut has been added to the north of the transept. The west side has one central stable door.
Inside, the barn has three bays of framing with plain principal studs, and the center two have knuckle braces on the east side only. There are middle rails, and the roof consists of principal rafters, collars, and one tier of clasped purlins. The floor is cobbled, and there are animal feeding troughs against the north and south end walls. The transept is accessed through a doorway, and there is a middle rail to the frame on the north and south sides.
