Description
The entrance gateway to Saling Grove, located north of West Lodge, dates from the 18th or 19th century. It features symmetrical cast iron gates and railings. The gateway is supported by two forward plastered brick columns, approximately 3 meters high, which have stone capitals topped with ball finials on concave stems. There is a plastered brick plinth that supports curvilinear side railings, which are adorned with fleur de lis designs on both the lower and top rails. The square openwork cast iron gate posts display a circle and concave diamond pattern, also topped with iron ball finials on coved stems. The double full-height gates match the pattern of the side railings and include a semi-circular band on the lower panel.
