Description
A timber-framed and plastered house dating to the second half of the 16th century, originally built on a T-shaped plan with a cross wing to the south. Significant 18th-century alterations and additions have resulted in an irregular plan. The house is two storeys with attics and cellars. The south-facing cross wing projects with a three-window front, while the main block extends northwards with a two-window front. Double-hung sash windows with glazing bars are set within flush cased frames. Two first-floor windows are three-light, and the ground floor has two three-light bays. The north end of the main block is also partly jettied on the first storey and partly underbuilt in painted brick. The east front features two large 18th-century rainwater heads under the jetty. A series of gabled wings extend to the rear, westwards, creating a picturesque composition of gabled roofs. The south side of the rear wing is jettied with a long run of casement windows beneath the jetty. The roofs are tiled, and an original brick chimney stack rises with three octagonal shafts on a rectangular base. Inside, original features include open fireplaces with carved wood surrounds, panelling, doors, and a fresco painting on the ground storey. The property is part of a group that includes numbers 3 to 13 (odd), Little Bradfords, and a barn to the southeast of Little Bradfords on the east side.
