Description

This is a substantial 18th-century timber-framed and plastered house. It is two storeys high, with an attic and cellar, and has a five-window front. The windows are double-hung sashes with glazing bars, set within flush cased frames with segmental heads. The south side of the house has a two-window front with two square bays on the ground floor. Small windows are set into the gable ends to light the attic. A central six-panel door is set within a decorative wooden doorcase featuring panelled reveals, fluted pilasters, a frieze, and a modillioned pediment, and is approached by a flight of steps. The double-pitched roof is covered in tiles and has a well-detailed modillioned eaves cornice. The interior retains 18th-century panelling, fireplaces, and a staircase. The house forms part of a group of listed buildings extending from number 4 to number 20 on the east side of Bradford Street and from number 19 to number 41 on the west side, alongside Bawn Cottage in Bawn Close.
