Description
The Old Court Hotel is a 17th-century timber-framed and plastered house located on Bradford Street. Originally designed with a T-shaped plan, it features a cross wing at the east end that was refronted in the late 18th century. This section was raised by one storey and is constructed of grey gault brick, which is now painted, and includes a parapet and cornice. The building has three storeys, attics, and cellars, with a four-window range of double-hung sashes that have glazing bars set in plain reveals. The end bays of the front each contain one window and project slightly forward, featuring three-light windows. The ground storey windows are adorned with cornices on console brackets. At the north end, there is a two-storey cart entrance with exposed timber-framing, revealed due to 20th-century demolitions. The roof is tiled and has a coved eaves cornice. A 17th-century wing extends to the west at the north end, which has mainly 18th-century fenestration. The roof of this wing is also tiled. The Old Court Hotel is part of a group of listed buildings that includes Nos. 19 to 41 on the west side and Nos. 4 to 20 on the east side, along with Bawn Cottage and Bawn Close.
