Description

A pair of cottages, dating from the early 19th century, located on the south-east side of High Street in Great Bardfield. The cottages are timber-framed and have been plastered, with lines inscribed into the plasterwork. They are covered by a slate roof. The cottages have four bays facing southwest with two internal stacks positioned behind the ridge. Each cottage is two storeys high. Each has one original splayed bay window, with 4-12-4 lights supported by a twisted wrought iron bracket. They also feature a one-window range of original sash windows with 16 lights, incorporating some crown glass. A 4-panel flush door is present in each cottage. The rear elevation of Pippins Cottage retains original horizontally sliding sash windows; one of 24 lights and one of 12 lights on each floor. The first-floor window of 24 lights has been altered to casements.
