Description

Brick House is an early 18th-century house located on the north-west side of Great Bardfield High Street. The building is constructed of red brick with blue headers in a Flemish bond pattern, topped with a roof of handmade red clay tiles. It has a rectangular plan, with a rear extension to the left side. The house is two storeys high, with attic space. The ground floor has four late 19th-century sash windows, each with four lights, all with segmental arches. The first floor has five sash windows of twelve lights, also with segmental arches. Three 19th-century casement windows are set within flat-roofed dormers in the attic. A central six-panel door is set within a moulded doorcase featuring a pediment supported by scrolled consoles, with a half-wheel fanlight featuring a Greek key border. Four stone steps, flanked by wrought iron scrolled railings, lead to the entrance. The house has a plain parapet and a hipped gambrel roof.
