Description
The Golden Sovereign, also known as The Old Police House, is a house that has been converted into a shop with living space above. It dates from the early 19th century and is constructed of red brick with blue headers in a Flemish bond pattern, topped with a slate roof. The building has a rectangular plan facing southeast and features rear extensions. It stands two storeys tall.
On the left side, there is a carriageway with an elliptical arch made of gauged red brick, leading to a 20th-century door that has a shallow arch of gauged red brick above it. The shopfront displays the name 'The Golden Sovereign'. On the first floor, there are three original sash windows, each with 16 lights and shallow arches of gauged red brick. The roof has a shallow pitch and is hipped only on the right side, connecting to the adjacent Brick House on the left. Notably, the right corner of the building is rounded off, extending four courses below the eaves.
