Description
Bank House is a house that has been converted into a branch bank and retains residential use. It dates from the early 19th century and is constructed of plastered brick. The roof features slates arranged in a fishscale pattern at the front, while the rear is covered with plain slates and handmade red clay tiles. The building has a rectangular plan facing southeast and includes axial stacks at the left end and one room at the right end.
It stands two storeys high and has a three-window range of original sash windows, each with 16 lights. The entrance to Bank House, located on the left, features a six-panel door with a plain rectangular light above it, framed by a moulded doorcase and a shallow hood supported by scrolled brackets, accessed by four stone steps. The entrance to Barclays Bank, on the right, also has a six-panel door with a simple surround and hood, flanked by wrought iron railings on either side, and is set on five concrete steps. The rear wing of the building, which was previously listed under the same serial number, is now listed separately.
