Description
Sparrows Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century or earlier. It is constructed of timber framing and plaster, topped with gabled roofs covered in peg tiles. The building has a 'T' shaped plan and consists of one storey with attics, featuring large crosswings at the north end that project forward to the west. At the south end, there is a two-storey gabled extension, along with a 20th-century pantiled lean-to on the southeast corner.
The west elevation, which is the front, includes a gabled dormer in the main block, a tall ridgeline stack, a 20th-century gabled porch, and a hipped extension also covered in peg tiles. The west wall of the crosswing features a segmental 20th-century bow window, some red brick, and old reused crenellated girts. A significant portion of the timber frame is exposed on the front, while the rear displays old pargetted plaster with raised square panels. The rear also includes one lean-to dormer, and the windows are leaded light casements.
