Description
Brookend Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around 1500 and the late 16th century. It is timber framed and plastered, topped with a gabled peg tile roof. The building has two storeys and a 'U' plan form with wings at the rear. The front features a gabled crosswing that was formerly jettied, along with a 20th-century gabled porch. The windows include a mix of 17th-century leaded light casements and early 19th-century double hung sash windows. There is an off-centre, canted, two-storey bay window with a hipped roof, a central gabled dormer window on the front, and a large rear wall stack along with later stacks on the crosswing. Inside, the timber frame is exposed, showcasing jowled posts, arch braces, and remnants of a crown post roof in the crosswing. The two-storey late 16th-century block serves as a replacement for a former open hall.
