Description

Muscombs is a house dating from the 16th century or earlier, originally built as a 'T' shaped range of timber framing which has been rendered on the exterior. The roofs are covered with peg tiles and are hipped, featuring gablets. The house comprises a two-bay 'hall' and a three-bay 'cross-wing' to the west. The windows are a mixture of 20th-century and older leaded light casements, with a 20th-century coursed bressumer on the south elevation and a flat-roofed dormer window. The west side features a three-light gabled dormer and a red brick stack. A hipped-roofed porch sits in the angle between the two blocks. The timber frame is exposed internally, revealing remnants of a cross passage and a service door head. A two-story extension with a peg tile roof and 20th-century oriol windows was added in the early 20th century to the rear. This extension incorporates a living room created from the relocation of a 14th-century barn, which retains a peg tile roof and an oriol window framed in oak.
