Description
Skilletts Farmhouse, dating from around 1450, features a timber frame with a red brick chimney added around 1500. The exterior is rough rendered, and it has a hipped roof with gablets covered in red plain tiles. The house is two storeys high and has a rear extension as well as a single-storey extension to the right. The front has a three-window range with 20th-century small paned casements, including two oriel windows on the ground floor. There is a 20th-century open pediment porch and a small paned glazed door. The original fireplace from around 1500 has replaced a timber chimney. Inside, the first floor has an arched brace to the tie beam and a two-armed crown post roof, with collars on every rafter pair. A plaster partition in the roof is inscribed with "frederick Hubbard 1662 Cavendish." The house also contains several 18th-century doors and is likely situated on a moated site. A front garden is enclosed by an 18th-century wall made of red brick and flint.
