Description

Pentlow Tower House is a house built around 1880 for Rev. John Bull. It features an asymmetrical plan and is constructed of red brick with red tiled roofs that have pierced ridge tiles. The building has two storeys and attics. To the left, there is a gabled crosswing with pilasters flanking the three-storey windows. The gable has a moulded brick cornice, a triangular fleuron, and a rose and leaf panel beneath the gable window, along with a central band featuring a fleuron.

To the right of the gable, there is a stone porch with a panelled parapet and ball finials, fluted pilasters, and a round-headed doorway with a heavy panelled door above which is a window. A narrow full-height gable projects forward to the right of the porch, featuring stone three or four-light windows with original coloured leaded lights and coats of arms. This gable also has a moulded brick cornice and panels.

The range to the right of this gable has two storeys, a moulded eaves cornice, a central fleuron band, two windows on the ground floor, and one on the first floor. There is a metal sundial on the first floor to the right. All windows are horned vertical sliding sashes with triglyph keystones set in gauged brick arches. The moulded brick patterns include egg and dart, daisy and leaf, rose and leaf, crucifera, and diamond designs. Ornately pierced gault brick ventilators are present, along with a matching bay window on the right return. The house has three red brick chimney stacks with bands and pilasters.

Attached to the left of the house is an original conservatory built on a brick base, featuring eight lights, each with glazing bars and transoms. This building is a notable example of later 19th-century moulded brickwork.
