Description

Pentlow Street Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 15th century, with later alterations. It features a jettied crosswing on the left side and is constructed from timber framing with rough rendering. The roof is covered with red plain tiles and the building has two storeys. The façade includes a 1:2 window arrangement with 19th-century two and three-light casements, and a six-panel door, four panels of which are glazed, topped with a flat canopy. There are two red brick chimney stacks, and some early leaded casements can be found on the left return. Inside, there are fine inserted carved and moulded bridging and ceiling joists with foliate stops on the ground floor, and the roof includes two-armed crown posts with moulded bases. The right range is soot blackened, and the crosswing was built approximately 20 years later with an integral floor. Solid tread stairs lead to the loft, and there is an original nailed vertically boarded door in a plain surround with a headboard over on the first floor. This farmhouse is considered to be a good example of its type.
