Description
Gage's House is a house dating from the late 15th century and early 16th century. It is timber framed and plastered, featuring jettied crosswings on both the left and right sides. The roof is covered with red plain tiles and has ornate pierced ridge tiles. The crosswing gables are adorned with carved bargeboards and finials. The house has two storeys and attics, with a window arrangement of 1:2:1, consisting mainly of three-light casements with a transom. The right crosswing has three-light mullions on either side, and there is a two-light casement in the attic. An enclosed off-centre gabled porch, which also has bargeboards and a finial, leads to a vertically boarded door. There is an off-centre red brick chimney with a rectangular base and two octagonal shafts topped with moulded capping, as well as an external red brick chimney on the right side. Inside, the timber frame is visible with moulded bridging and common joists, and there are numerous original windows. A 17th-century staircase is located in a lean-to at the rear, and the roof features a simple crown post design.
