Description
A farmhouse, now a house, likely dating from around 1600, with later alterations. The building is timber-framed and set on a sandstone plinth, with painted brick infill between the framing timbers. It has a mid-to-late 18th-century fishscale tiled roof. The farmhouse is two storeys high with a gable-lit attic, and has three framed bays. The timber framing consists of three rectangular panels extending from the cill to the wall plate, with short tension braces. A change in the framing to the left of the doorway suggests a later insertion of the chimney. There are three three-light leaded casement windows on the first floor and three on the ground floor, two to the left of a late 19th-century door with a gabled hood, and one to the right. A rebuilt ridge stack, made of mid-19th century purplish-brown brick, sits immediately to the right of the doorway. Inside, the main ground floor room to the left of the doorway has chamfered spine beams and heavy joists, with exposed timber framing. There’s an inglenook fireplace and a late 17th-century oak staircase with curved splat balusters located behind the stack. The roof is a queen-strut roof with V-struts from the collar.
