Description

Little Poundsbridge is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, dating from the early 17th century. It is a timber-framed building that has been underbuilt and clad in late 18th to early 19th century materials, with later 19th century additions. The base is made of red brick, featuring a mix of header-bond and English bond, with tile hanging above. The roof is half-hipped and covered with old tiles, topped by a tall brick chimney stack.

The house is two stories high with three framed bays and has irregular window placements. Most of the windows are early 20th century casements that do not hold special architectural or historic interest, although there are two late 20th century wood-framed casements with diamond-leaded lights. The south end elevation features two early 19th century metal casements with leaded glazing, decorative hinges and handles, and chamfered wood mullions and surrounds. The north-east front has a central doorcase with a plank door, while the south-west front has a distinctive angled projection at the base of the chimney stack.

Inside, the ground floor includes a large open fireplace with a curved brick hood above. The beams are one inch chamfered with lambs tongue stops, and the joists are original chamfered types. The first floor also has cross beams of the same style, with centre posts that have moulded tops. The corner posts are jowled with angled cuts, and original floorboards are present on both the first floor and loft. The roof shows signs of smoke blackening, likely from the use of the left bay for hop-roasting, and some timbers have been renewed. Restoration work was ongoing at the time of inspection.
