Description

North Place and Saddlers is a house that has been divided into two separate residences. It dates from the 17th century and has been altered in the 18th century and around 1900. The building is timber framed and plastered, featuring some imitation framing, and is roofed with handmade red clay tiles. It has four bays facing west, with an axial stack at the left end and crosswings at both ends. There are two-storey extensions to the left and at the rear of the left crosswing, along with a single-storey lean-to extension in the front left corner. A parallel range extends to the rear of the main block.

The house is two storeys high. On the ground floor, there is one 20th-century casement window, two late 19th-century tripartite sash windows with 2-4-2 lights, and one sash window with eight lights from around 1900. The first floor features three 20th-century casements and three sash windows with eight lights, also from around 1900. The upper storeys of both crosswings and the left extension display exposed imitation framing from around 1900. The entrance includes a five-panel door with a glazed top panel set in a Tuscan portico, and there are garage doors at the right end. The entrance to Saddlers is located in the left return wall. Inside, the space is mainly plastered, and the beams have been boxed in. The roof has been rebuilt using softwood. The building is listed for its group value.
