Description
This is a house, originally built around 1600, and later altered in the 20th century. It has been divided into two separate houses, numbered 91 and 93 West Street. The building is timber framed and has been plastered, with a roof covered in interlocking concrete tiles. It has three bays facing north, with a central axial stack (chimney) in the middle bay. A one-bay rear wing extends from the left end, featuring an internal end stack, and a single-storey extension is located beyond it. A further extension was added around 1957 to the right of the main range, with a catslide roof over this section and the adjacent bay at the rear.
The front of the building has a three-window arrangement, featuring 20th-century metal casement windows. Both houses have early 19th-century six-panel doors. One door has flush bottom panels and fielded panels above, while the other has a similar design, both set within simple doorcases with shallow, moulded canopies and a stone step.
Inside number 91, there is an early 19th-century staircase with a turned newel post and stick balusters. The rear wing contains a chamfered axial beam, and on the first floor, a borrowed light window of around 1800 with 12 panes of glass. The walls have been raised by approximately one metre.
Inside number 93, a partition with studded detailing and curved bracing has been exposed. There is also a chamfered axial beam with lamb's tongue stops, a large wood-burning hearth with 0.33-metre jambs and rounded internal splays.
