Description
This is a house located at 112 West Street, dating from the early 17th century and altered in the early 19th century. It is timber framed, primarily plastered, with the framing exposed on the left side, and has a roof covered with handmade red plain tiles. The building features a three-bay crosswing on the right, which is now part of no. 110. There is a 19th-century stack on the right side at the junction and another internal stack at the rear. The house has two storeys, with one early 19th-century sash window of 16 lights on each floor. The entrance includes a six-panel door set in a simple doorcase with a shallow flat canopy and one stone step. The left return shows exposed close studding with straight bracing. Inside, there is an early 19th-century fluted fire surround with paterae in the ground-floor room, along with chamfered axial beams featuring lamb's tongue stops. The rear girt is also chamfered with lamb's tongue stops, and there are jowled posts. On the first floor, there are two 18th-century battened and beaded doors leading to closets. This building is part of the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England.
