Description

This is a house, originally one dwelling, now divided into two separate properties at 2 and 4 Colne Park Road. The core of the building dates to the 15th century, with a significant extension added in the 18th century. It is constructed with a timber frame, now plastered, and has a roof covered in handmade red plain tiles. The original plan consisted of a two-bay hall facing southwest, with a service bay to the left and a parlour/solar bay to the right. There is an 18th-century one-bay extension to the left. The building features two axial chimney stacks and an external stack at the right end, along with extensions to the rear.

Architecturally, the house features a single storey with attics. Number 4, on the left, has three ground-floor windows and three dormers, the alterations to which were noted in April 1986. Number 2, on the right, showcases two 16-light sash windows and two 20th-century casements in its gabled dormers. The roof has a gablet hip at the right end. Interior features include jowled posts, close studding, a cranked central tiebeam and a crownpost roof with axial bracing. Simple internal doorheads are also present. The timber frame was measured and documented in a 1983 publication, "Wherein I Dwell," by the Earl's Colne WEA, pages 38-41 and on the inside rear cover.
