Description
This property comprises three buildings at 56, 58A, and 58 Newland Street, likely originating as a timber-framed and plastered structure dating from the 17th to 18th centuries. These buildings have been refronted in grey gault brick during the 18th and 19th centuries. Number 56 is a later 19th-century addition, featuring red brick dressings. Number 58 is currently painted. All three buildings have parapets accented by raised brick bands. Number 56 stands on a slightly raised level. The facades feature a total of six window bays, utilizing double-hung sash windows. Number 56's windows are un-mullioned and have plain reveals, with segmental brick arches and keystones. Numbers 58A and 58 have windows with glazing bars and plain reveals. The ground floor currently accommodates 20th-century retail shops. The roofs are tiled. Buildings 56, 58A, and 58, along with numbers 60 to 66 (even), number 47 (The Spread Eagle Hotel), and numbers 53 to 57 (odd) are grouped together as a cohesive architectural ensemble.
