Description
The Midland Bank, located at 57 Newland Street, is a notable 18th-century red brick house featuring a parapet and a moulded brick cornice. The building stands three storeys high with a basement and has a seven-window range, showcasing double-hung sashes with glazing bars set in cased frames. There are raised brick bands that run between the storeys. The central doorway is adorned with a 20th-century classical arch supported by square pillars and a cornice made of stucco. The basement area is enclosed by iron railings. The rear facade includes 20th-century additions on the ground storey, and the roof is tiled and hipped. The Midland Bank is part of a group that includes No 47, the Spread Eagle Hotel, and Nos 53 to 57 (odd), along with Nos 56, 58A, 58, and Nos 60 to 66 (even).
