Description
No. 61 Newland Street is a 16th-century timber-framed and plastered building that was refronted in the 18th century with red brick. It features a low parapet, a stone band below, and a moulded stone plinth. The building has three storeys and a basement, with a three-window range of double-hung sashes that include margin glazing bars. The ground storey windows are adorned with moulded stone architraves. The central section, which contains one window and a doorway, slightly projects forward. Moulded stone bands run along the window sill levels of the first and second storeys. The central doorway is framed by a stucco door case with Tuscan pilasters, columns in antis, and a cornice that extends across the front. Nos 61 to 65 form a group with Nos 83 to 91, Nos 72 to 78, Nos 86 to 92, and the Congregational Chapel.
