Description

No. 87 Newland Street is an 18th-century timber-framed and plastered house with a red brick front. It features a parapet and a moulded and dentilled brick cornice. The building has two storeys, attics, and a basement, with a three-window range of double-hung sashes that have glazing bars and plain reveals. The central window on the first storey is flanked by brick pilasters and has a semi-circular brick arched head with a stucco keystone. The doorway is accessed by a flight of stone steps with iron handrails and includes a semi-circular fanlight and panelled reveals. The roof is tiled, with a mansard and half-hipped design. This property is part of a group that includes Nos. 83 to 91 (odd), Nos. 61 to 65 (odd), Nos. 72 to 78 (even), Nos. 86 to 92 (even), and the Congregational Chapel.
