Description
BURES HAMLET FISHPITS LANE TL 83 SE (west side) 4/40 Fishpits - II House. C17. Painted brick in Flemish bond, roofed with handmade red clay tiles. 4 bays facing SE, with axial chimney stack forming lobby-entrance. Timber framed C17 wing to rear right, raised in C18. C20 wing to rear left, forming a half-H plan, and single-storey lean-to between the wings, C20. C18 external oven at right end of main range. 2 storeys. 3 C20 sashes of 20 lights on ground floor, 3 late C18 sashes of 16 lights on first floor. C20 door at front of gabled porch. Both ends of roof half-hipped. Interior partitions timber-framed, with primary straight bracing. In right bay, chamfered axial beam with lamb's tongue stops, and plain joists of vertical section. In middle room, transverse beam and plain joists of horizontal section. In left bay, plain beam, originally plastered over, now exposed, and joists plastered to the soffits. The floor of the bread oven has been removed for a central heating boiler, but the walls and arched roof survive.
