Description
House, dating to the 15th century with additions and alterations around 1600. The house is timber framed and now plastered, with exposed framing to the front. The main roof has a front pitch covered in interlocking concrete tiles, and other pitches with handmade red clay tiles. The original plan comprised a 3-bay main range facing west, with a central chimney stack creating a lobby entrance, and an 18th-century external chimney stack at the right end. A 2-bay crosswing, dating to the 15th century, is located at the left end, with a 16th-century stack on the left wall and a lean-to extension beyond, creating a catslide roof. A 2-bay extension to the rear of the crosswing was built around 1600, and modern flat-roofed and lean-to extensions are present at the rear. The main range has two storeys and a 2-window front with late 18th-century sash windows of 16 lights, and a central 6-panel door. The crosswing has a jetty with exposed ties. A 20th-century casement window is on the ground floor, and a late 18th-century sash window of 16 lights on the first floor. Inside the main range's right bay, there are plain joists with plastered soffits. The left bay of the main range features a chamfered axial beam with run-out lambs tongue stops. The first floor and roofs were not inspected. An attached 19th-century farm building to the southwest, now converted to residential use, is of less significance.
