Description

Ravensfield Farmhouse is a house dating from the early 17th century, with extensions added in the 18th and 19th centuries. The building features a mix of timber framing and plaster, along with painted brick in Flemish bond, and is topped with a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. It has four bays facing west and includes an axial chimney stack located in the second bay from the right, which creates a lobby entrance typical of the early 17th century.

At the rear of the left end, there is an 18th-century timber-framed wing, while an early 19th-century brick wing is positioned at the front of the left end. Additionally, there is a mid-19th-century single-storey brick wing at the rear of the right end. The farmhouse stands two storeys tall with attics and features a two-window range of early 19th-century sash windows with 16 lights. There is an extra sash window on the ground floor of the front wing and a 20th-century equivalent on the first floor, with some original crown glass still present.

The entrance includes a six-panel door set within a 19th-century gabled brick porch. The right return wall has two similar sash windows with crown glass, while the left return wall has a more scattered arrangement of windows. Inside, there are chamfered beams with lamb's tongue stops above the ground and first floors, and the joists are plastered to the soffits. The roof features clasped purlins with three collars in each full bay. An early 19th-century corner cupboard can be found on the ground floor. Most ground floor windows are fitted with double-hung vertically sliding shutters that are still operational, which is a rare feature.
