Description
PEBMARSH TL 83 SE 4/81 Garland's Farmhouse - II House. Circa 1500 and early C17, extended in C20. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with handmade red clay tiles. 3-bay crosswing, c.1500, aligned approx. E-W. Early C17 block to N of W bay, with axial chimney stack at the junction, forming an L-plan. Early C17 stair tower in the angle. C20 single-storey extensions to E and NE. 2 storeys. W elevation, 3-window range of C20 casements. Central C20 2-storey jettied timber-framed porch in Tudor style. Roof hipped. In the crosswing there are large half-height jowls on some storey posts, richly moulded beams and joists with converging stops, with one plain section indicating the position of the original stair trap, now blocked. On the first floor, one complete unglazed window with 5 diamond mullions, shutter grooves for others, and moulded bridging beams with plain joists of horizontal section, originally plastered to the soffits. The N block has a chamfered binding beam with lamb's tongue stops, and joists of vertical section, some chamfered, some plain, re-arranged. Reproduction Tudor doorheads. Early C19 cupboard in NE corner of ground floor. RCHM 19.
