Description

Garland's Farmhouse is a house dating from around 1500 and the early 17th century, with extensions added in the 20th century. It is timber framed and plastered, with a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. The original structure includes a 3-bay crosswing from circa 1500, aligned approximately east to west, and an early 17th-century block to the north of the west bay, which features an axial chimney stack at the junction, creating an L-plan. There is also an early 17th-century stair tower in the angle. The 20th-century additions include single-storey extensions to the east and northeast. The house has two storeys and the west elevation features a three-window range of 20th-century casements. A central 20th-century two-storey jettied timber-framed porch in Tudor style is present, and the roof is hipped.

Inside the crosswing, there are large half-height jowls on some of the storey posts, along with richly moulded beams and joists that have converging stops. One plain section indicates where the original stair trap was located, though it is now blocked. On the first floor, there is one complete unglazed window with five diamond mullions, shutter grooves for additional windows, and moulded bridging beams with plain joists that were originally plastered on the soffits. The northern block features a chamfered binding beam with lamb's tongue stops, and the joists are of vertical section, with some being chamfered and others plain, having been rearranged. There are reproduction Tudor doorheads and an early 19th-century cupboard in the northeast corner of the ground floor.
